    Abstract

The nanometric Si3N4 particulate-reinforced aluminum composite was fabricated by a powder metallurgy technique. The tensile properties of the composite were tested, and the polished composite and the tensile fracture surface were observed. The 1vol.%Si3N4 (15 nm)/A1 composite exhibited a strength comparable to that of the 15vol.%SiCp (3.5 μm)/A1 composite.
