Abstract

‘Musical Journey Around the World’ is created in Max/MSP and Ableton Live. Without involving drastic changes to the original material, it expands beyond traditional musical forms, representing an investigation into the creative possibilities of multichannel signal processing in Max/MSP for generating rich and compelling soundscapes. In the Introduction and the entire composition, for the signal manipulation of the sound of percussion instruments, including Macedonian drum (tapan) and tarabuka, and voice, I used soundscape generator where a single sample is a starting point. For panning, different algorithms are used, that range from utilizing multichannel LFOs to the playback status of each individual playback channel. In the second part, for the viola sound processing, I used multichannel harmonic delay in Max/MSP. Other multichannel processing techniques used in this composition include superimposition and all pass filter with 50 copies of the same sample.
