Abstract

On 26 January 2021, the neutron beam shutter for the multi-physics instrument (MPI) at the China Spallation Neutron Source was opened for the first time. The MPI is the first total scattering diffractometer in China. Initial measurements to characterize the instrument performance are reported in this paper. The measurement results well agree with the design calculations. New scientific opportunities with the MPI are discussed and we begin to cultivate the user community.
