Abstract
Recent work has laid the foundations of a quantitative approach to sustainable development policy assessment through a formulation which is both stochastic and multi-objective. The key to this development was a static open-loop optimization. The current paper explores the connections between such an approach and model predictive control (MPC), and proposes a reformulation which retains the stochastic and multi-objective nature of the problem, but introduces dynamics and gives consideration to closed-loop performance and stability. The proposed approach has wide applicability but it is hoped that it will provide sustainable development practitioners in particular with new insights.
