Abstract

Recent progress in developing high-performance nonlinear optical polymers suitable for electro-optic (EO) device exploration has been reported. While Diels-Alder reactions can solve the problem of low poling efficiency in crosslinkable NLO polymeric systems, another great advantage of this type of reaction has been explored for postfunctionalization; to synthesize high-performance EO polymers that are free of ionic impurities. The combination of high EO activity and good thermal stability, as well as excellent poling behaviors of these resultant polymers, is quite encouraging in the quest for high-performance EO polymers for device purposes.
