Abstract
The free surface of magneto-rheological fluids (MRFs) can be disturbed by anexternal magnetic field to form peaks along the field direction. The protruding volume is largelyrelated to the magnitude of the applied B-field. This paper presents a theoretical analysis of theeffects of this type of magnetic field on the protruding height (volume) of MRFs. A theoreticalmodel of the protruded volume of MRFs is used according to the Euler equation and theboundary conditions for equilibrium and based on an ideal ellipsoidal shape. The surface profiledue to the presence of a magnetic field is also experimentally analysed.
