Modeling of chaotic characteristics in integrated phase-locked loop

Abstract

An integrated PLL based on NMOS technology is designed and its chaotic characteristics are carefully analyzed and modeled. We found that the differential equation of the PLL is a second-order non-Hamiltonian and nonautonomous system which is then analyzed using Melnikov's method. A set of conditions for the determination the existence of chaos is worked out. These conditions agree very well with the SPICE simulation results.
