Abstract

In this paper, we present a system-theoretic method for modeling and analysis of patient flow in emergency department (ED). Specifically, we model the patient flow in ED as a complex network with split, merge, parallel, closed and reentrant services. A preliminary study on performance analysis of care delivery process in patient rooms is presented, where an analytical calculation of patient length of stay is derived.
