Abstract
Distributed electric propulsion systems (DEPS) are very popular now. Conventional DEPS require mechanical parts, which increase the volume and weight of the system. Therefore, this article proposes a novel direct drive crossed teeth transverse flux motor (CTTFM) to improve the power and torque density and reduce the torque ripple. Its step skew crossed teeth can reduce the torque ripple by changing the phase of the submodule electromagnetic vector and spoke-type PMs can enhance the flux density. Then, a simplified model for the equivalent magnetic circuit (EMC) analysis based on the CTTFM characteristics is established. It can conveniently simplify the permeance analysis of the step skew stator teeth and evaluate the impact of motor parameters on electromagnetic performance. According to the simplified model and finite element method (FEM), the effects of the dimensions of the stator teeth, step skew angle, phase interval length, and rotor type on motor performance are further investigated. Finally, a prototype was manufactured, and experiments were conducted to verify the motor performance. The results verify the consistency of the analysis and experiments. © 2024 IEEE.
