Abstract
In this study, a discrete event simulation model of patient flow is developed for analysis and design of a gastroenterol- ogy (GI) clinic in University ofWisconsin Medical Foundation (UWMF). The model has been validated by comparing with the data observed in the current clinic. Then, using such a model, we analyze the patient length of stay and staff utilization with respect to patient arrivals, staffing levels, and resource changes. Moreover, such a simulation model has been used for designing a new GI facility of UWMF. In addition to analyzing the clinic performance, the impact of different check-out processes in patient discharge stage has been investigated.
