Abstract
This paper presents an empirically based model of the interactive development of organizational and inter-organizational communication in multinational corporations. Tracing the development over three stages, the model details the interactions between expatriates and local staff (internal adaptation) and between expatriates and other stakeholders (external adaptations) in each stage. Attention is focused only on expatriates with limited second language competency (Zone One expatriates).
