Minimizing the discrete reflectivity of perfectly matched layers

Abstract

The perfectly matched layer (PML) method is widely used for truncating unbounded domains in simulations of optical waveguiding structures. In this letter, we develop a practical procedure for selecting a PML profile for a given set of discretization parameters. Our approach is designed for frequency domain simulations and it is based on minimizing the average discrete reflectivity of the PML. © 2006 IEEE.
