Abstract

The synthesis of coral-like carbon nanotubes (CNT), using chemical vapor deposition (CVD) was carried out. The growth mechanism, microstructure and field emission properties of CNT were investigated. The CNT consisted of a bamboo-like internal structure with their outer walls consisting of open graphite layers, and nanoflakes stemming from the bamboo knots. The field emission characteristics of the CNT films exhibited a turn-on field as low as 4 V/μm.
