Abstract
Photocatalytic fuel cell (PFC) harnesses the light andconvertschemical energy to electricity. In this study, aproof-of-concept microfluidic PFC has been developed. The photocatalytic anode is made of TiO2nanorodssupported by FTO glass and the cathode is made of Pt-blackcoated gas-diffusion electrode(GDE). By intensifyingmass and charge transportand eliminating optical spread loss, the PFC performs with the maximumpower densityof 0.142mW cm-2and short circuit current density of 1.183 mA cm-2.The results indicateair-breathing MPFC performs better than nonair-breathingcounterpart.Increasinginflow rateplays a positive role for increasing cell performance. The present work provides fundamental understanding of MPFC operation.
