N2 - In years of the discovery of penicillin and the sulfonamides, health professionals were exposed to different types of other antimicrobial agents with different chemical and physical properties. Antibiotics are substances produced by microorganisms having the potential to kill or prevent the growth of pathogenic pathogens. Antibiotics are antimicrobial medications classified as antibacterial, antifungal, antiviral, or antiparasitic. In this chapter, we discuss systems as well as various biological events of naturally occurring products, also recombinant proteins, employed as important molecules in the fields of medicine and healthcare for the service of mankind. Furthermore, we study historical and contemporary attempts, and accomplishments in the development of new, powerful, and encouraging antibiotics. Microbial antibiotics have a broad range of biological effects that approach and aid in human health management. We also concentrate on advancements in the synthesis of antibiotics from microbes along with their biological action throughout this area. © 2023 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.
