Media Law Reform in Post-Soviet Turkmenistan: The Illusion of Democratization

Abstract

Although new media laws in Turkmenistan present the illusion of democratic change, Turkmen media policy continues to rely on propaganda and repression. The overhaul of media law actually stifles democratization, especially by providing new tools to control the Internet.
