Abstract

Metallic glass was successfully fabricated of the Gd 4Co 3 intermetallic composition. Analysis of the magnetization- temperature data showed that the moment per Gd atom was larger than its theoretical value and indicated the contribution from the Co moment. The maximum magnetic entropy change of glassy Gd 4Co 3 was determined as -7.2 J kg -1 K -1 at 50 kOe and -3.8 J kg -1 K -1 at 20 kOe, which are both much larger than those of its crystalline state. © 2012 Elsevier B.V.
