Abstract

We report the design and fabrication of an efficient, linearly polarized cw Nd:S-VAP laser operating at 1.338 μm. Maximum output power was measured to be 171 mW with a slope efficiency of 38.7%. Single longitudinal mode operation was achieved at low pump level. By intracavity-frequency-doubling with a KTP crystal, a 669 nm red light with a maximum output power of 3.2 mW was obtained. Polarization dependent absorption and emission spectra of Nd:S-VAP crystal were also measured.
