Abstract
Transparent thin film coatings of sol-gel derived titanium dioxide were produced on cotton fabrics at a low temperature of 150°C. The photocatalytic activity of the formed layers was studied by means of their antibacterial property. SEM images show the formation of continuous layers of titanium dioxide with grains of about 20 nm in diameter. The UV-blocking effect of titania coatings was also studied. XRD patterns revealed the existence of anatase phase in a small scale within the titania layers.
