Abstract

"LINDA CHIU-HAN LAI. RETROSPECTIVE" is a solo show of Linda Lai's videography, a special showcase of 8 of her video works from 2001 to 2018, plus one recent work for world premiere. Curated by Alvaro Reodriguze Fominaya, Curator of c3a (Centro de Creacion Contemporaneo Consejeria de Andalucia), the show took place 5 Feb until 12 June 2021. Deprived of presence at the opening due to COVID-19, Lai presented the concept of the selection and her practice in a feature article, written in English and translated into Spanish. The 9-work, 4-month long retrospective articulated the history and conceptual methods of Linda Lai's videographic practice, highlighting the interdisciplinary nature of video art and the specific impact of feminism in her general practice. Philosopher of new materialism Donna Haraway's notion of "tentacular thinking" is invoked to show how moments of artistic creation are always part of a much broader network of social and cultural practices.
