Abstract
Pulsed laser ablation of a granulated Si target was carried out at 1200°C in an Ar atmosphere. The multi-shot ablated target surface formed intensity-dependent features. Evidence on the preferred removal of smaller particles was observed. The Si species ablated off the granulated Si target deposited as Si nanowires downstream of the carrying gas flow. Formation of the columnar structures started at the surface and grew deeper by consuming the removed Si species from the deep channel between columns.
