Abstract
Lantern Strike (Strong Loneliness) is the result of filming with Foreign Object #2 Umbra and Penumbra (+852 carambola II). Programmed with background detection technology typically used in surveillance to erase shadows, the work reverses the logic of visual clarity. Rather than removing shadows, the camera isolates them, capturing only the shifting silhouettes of movement. With this device in hand, Wu wandered through New York City. The resulting footage renders the city as a shifting tapestry of shadows, accompanied by an image-generated soundscape that mirrors its fleeting contours.
