Abstract

By the “Venice School” (Scuola di Venezia) I mean the shaping – within the articulated, albeit variegated, sometimes complex and contradictory intellectual production of the Università Iuav di Venezia – of a particular approach to architecture and urban studies that enabled a broader reflection on the relationship between economy, society, and territory. This school of thought originated at the Università Iuav di Venezia and was shaped by scholars such as, among others, Saverio Muratori, Bruno Zevi, Leonardo Benevolo, Manfredo Tafuri, Carlo Aymonino, Aldo Rossi, Vittorio Gregotti, and Bernardo Secchi. They took the morphological analysis of the built environment and the relationship between building typology and urban form and made it the foundation for the construction of a new theoretical framework and the drafting of coherent design proposals.
