Knowledge-based Cabins Crew Pattern Generator

Research output: Journal Publications and ReviewsRGC 21 - Publication in refereed journalpeer-review

Abstract

The problem of designing cabin crew patterns according to flight schedules is an important aspect of resource management for the airline industries. So far, there have been very few discussions on the detailed design of such systems. The paper describes a knowledge-based approach to the problem and presents the design and implementation issues. A prototype known as the Cabin Crew Pattern Generator has been successfully constructed and validated. A hybrid knowledge representation formalism has been adopted in modelling the system. It is envisaged that minor extensions are needed to the existing prototype to have a fully operational cabin crew planning system.
