Abstract
Model predictions have suggested that tropical cyclone (TC) precipitation intensity should increase in response to the rising sea surface temperature associated with global warming. However, no detailed study on this topic has been made using historical data. Whether TC precipitation intensity has increased through the past decades remain unknown, despite the recent detection of upward trends in the frequency and occurrence of very heavy precipitation. It is therefore important to study the trend of TC precipitation intensity in the past decades to help calibrate model projections and to glimpse the impact of future climate change. In this presentation, the impact of climate change on TC precipitation will be explored using observational perspective.
