Investigations of the breakdown of passive films on Fe-25Cr-4Al alloy by slow rate straining

Abstract

The stress corrosion cracking behaviours of Fe-25Cr and Fe-25Cr-4Al alloys in 20% NaCl solution at 100 °C were investigated by a slow rate straining technique. The results showed that detectable stress corrosion cracking occurred in both alloys under these conditions. However, the Fe-25Cr-4Al alloy was found to be less resistant to the stress corrosion. Application of cathodic potentials during the slow strain rate test resulted in a significant increase in the ductility of both alloys. © 1988.
