Introduction: Pursuing Proper Human Relations in the Era of Artificial Intelligence

In a recent interview held in December 2024, Geoffrey Hinton, often referred to as a “godfather” of artificial intelligence (AI) and a Nobel laureate in physics for his contributions to AI, expressed concerns about a potential “10% to 20%” risk that AI could result in human extinction within the next three decades. He warned that the rate of technological advancement is surpassing expectations, noting that humanity has not previously encountered entities more intelligent than themselves. According to Hinton, instances of a superior intelligence being controlled by a less intelligent entity are scarce, with the relationship between a mother and child being a notable exception, where evolution has enabled the infant to influence the parent. He posits that humans may be comparable to toddlers when juxtaposed with the intellect of highly advanced AI systems.
