Abstract

This is an opening chapter to the edited volume, _Confucianism for the Contemporary World: Global Order, Political Plurality, and Social Action_. In addition to summarizing the main arguments of the 13 chapters in the edited volume, it offers an explanation for the successful revival of Confucianism on mainland China since 1979.
