Abstract
Analytical expressions were obtained for the calculations of the intermodal dispersion in a two-core fiber, and its effect was measured with numerical results and examples. The outcome showed that a few meters of a regular two-fiber can be long enough to disrupt the switching of picosecond pulses. It was evident that a trade-off between optical power and pulse duration occurred for such nonlinear coupler due to the presence of intermodal dispersion in the fiber. The results of this work should be beneficial for the design and assessment of a number of two-care fiber devices.
