Abstract

This paper investigates how to improve the performance of temperature control andenergy efficiency of air-conditioning systems of large-scale rooms. A new controldesign is proposed to integrate wireless sensor network and intelligent controltechniques. Wireless sensor network will be used to measure the temperature at thebreathing level, guaranteeing that the controlled temperature is the temperature thatoccupants really need. An intelligent control is developed to realize a demand-basedtemperature control, which will only consider and guarantee the thermal comfort in theareas with occupants. A case study will be presented to show the benefits of theproposed method. In case study, the performance of the temperature control and theenergy saving potential will be evaluated under different occupancy conditions bycomparing it with a conventional control with the aid of CFD simulation.
