Abstract

This article proposes a novel approach to designing integrated compensation circuits with fewer components for wireless power transfer (WPT) systems. Our approach utilizes Γ-circuit to achieve voltage–current conversion and is applicable for both inductive and capacitive couplers. By incorporating the designed compensation circuits at the primary or secondary side of second-order compensated WPT converters, higher-order compensated WPT converters can be achieved. These converters offer the ability to transform between load-independent constant current (CC) output and constant voltage (CV) output at the same operating frequency, while also possessing desirable properties such as reduced dependence on couplers and an expanded operating range. Moreover, our approach can be extended to increase flexibility on the output side, without compromising the simplicity of design parameter determination. We present the properties of the resulting circuits, enabling the selection of multiple compensation circuits suitable for various application scenarios. Finally, we validate the proposed compensation design's applicability to a WPT system by constructing a laboratory prototype that can produce both CC and CV output forms at a fixed operating frequency. © 2023 IEEE
