Abstract
In this article, benzoic acid, phthalic acid and pyromellitic acid, with different proportions to Eu3+, are doped separately into silica xerogels through sol-gel route. The luminescent property variations and thermal stability of the three aromatic carboxylic acid:Eu3+ complexes in the heat treatment are discussed, and the relationships between the luminescent properties thermal stability and the structure of the complexes are also studied. In silica xerogels, the increase of the number of carboxyl groups improves the luminescence intensity and thermal stable temperature of the aromatic carboxylic acid:Eu3+ complexes. © 1998 Elsevier Science Ltd.
