Abstract

The amprphous-to-crystalline phase transformation in Zr-based bulk metallic glass (BMG) was studied by using a new approach involving simultaneous diffraction and small angle scattering (SAS). A mechanism based on short-range atomic transport was proposed for phase separation. The nucleation and growth of crystalline phase occurs in separate stages, with different kinetics.
