Abstract

Ti3Sn has received increasing attention as high damping metallic material. However, information of solid state transformation and crystal structure of Ti3Sn were still incomplete. Here, in-situ synchrotron high energy XRD during heating/cooling and during uniaxial compressive loading were used to study the phase transformation of Ti3Sn. Thermal-induced reversible phase transformation of Ti3Sn was demonstrated, and it was found that such transformation could also be stress (strain) induced. Crystal structure, lattice parameters and atomic Wyckoff positions of new base-centered orthorhombic phase of Ti3Sn were suggested based on Rietveld refinement of XRD profiles. The phase contents of Ti3Sn during heating/cooling processes were also discussed.
