Abstract

Object segmentation from invalid points such as shadows and background is a key factor in digital fringe projection 3D shape measurement. Conventional methods for object segmentation based on modulation level normally work well in dark background, however, they lose accuracy with a variety of backgrounds. In this paper, we proposed two coding images and applied them in an improved framework for object segmentation. The shadows are detected from modulation histogram, and the background is detected from intensity histogram of the coding images. Experiments are designed on different background conditions for analyzing and verifying the segmentation performance of the proposed technique.
