Abstract
Two video works by Linda Lai -- Micro Narratives: a Visual Poem (2017) and Non-Place, Other Space (2009) -- were part of a 2-week exhibition for a dialogue between 3 Hungarian and 2 HK artists, "Hong Kong In-between," curated by Anna Szepesi, opening on 11 June 2019, at A38, Budapest, Hungary.
"All the exhibiting artists are related to the artists’ and art teachers’ colony at the School of Creative Media/SCM in Hong Kong, taking shape within the City University of Hong Kong since the early 2000’s. The institution’s mission is to educate artists for the art scene, who are interested in the interdisciplinary arts, have a critical thinking and work with technical media in Hong Kong, a city becoming a cultural centre of global importance. Moving through the frontiers of art and science, traditional genres and new media experiments, building from local and global cultural identities, the SCMC’s experienced and beginning artists created and exhibited exciting works in recent years, for example at the 2011/12 Grand Opening Festival, This Slow That Fast: Animamix Biennale 2013/14 and the ISEA2016 exhibitions.
The works, presented at this exhibition, show the social-historical and existential fault-lines of the structural changes, the post-colonial and global trends in Hong Kong’s political and social life. The documentarist, virtual and metaphoric micro-movements and still images move around liminal frontiers and reflect mental threshold situations." (from the show's public announcement)
