Home-based learning during COVID-19 outbreak: Feedback from Chinese parents

In the span of just a few weeks, the COVID-19 pandemic, caused by the novel coronavirus SARS-CoV-2, has quickly become the world’s most salient common concern. One of the most significant challenges during this unexpected crisis is the continuation of K-12 education for students who have been instructed to stay at home. Here we examine the survey responses of K-12 parents in China, the virus’s initial epicenter, which demonstrate the relative receptiveness to technology integration and elements of online learning. Based on these findings, we suggest that large-scale educational reforms should take place after the COVID-19 crisis is over in order to make our education system more flexible, resilient, and enriching.
