Abstract
Ordered zinc oxide (ZnO) nanowire arrays in anodic aluminum oxide (AAO) templates were fabricated by a dry vapor deposition method. The nanowire arrays were dense with a high aspect ratio up to ∼5x106, and homogeneous over a large area (∼20 mm2). As such, ultraviolet lasing action of the arrays was observed by PL at room temperature above an exciting laser threshold of ∼100 kW cm-2.
