Abstract

The prediction of acoustic resonance frequency distribution and modeling of small wattage metal-halide (MH) lamp was discussed. The acoustic resonance frequencies scattered over a broad frequency band were predicted by simplified acoustic wave equation. The mathematical model was used as general-purpose CAD tool for simulating high-frequency behavior of low-wattage high intensity discharge (HID) lamps. This approach provided tool for electronic ballast designers to predict the unstable frequency regions of HID lamps and to design control for the ballast.
