Abstract

Porous sponges have received great attention in the fields of hemostatic applications, which has been required in clinical occasions over the past decades. In this work, we develop the graphene oxide nanosheet assisted chitosan sponge with simple freeze-drying process. Since chitosan owns good clotting capability, antibacterial property as well as biodegradability, the porous sponge could be applied in the hemostasis as well as wound healing. By adding the graphene oxide, the mechanical strength could be further enhanced for better wound patching. Such sponge owns high porosity exhibiting good water absorption ability. Besides, additional drugs could be loaded into sponge exhibiting time-dependent releasing performance. Biodegradability is also found in porous sponge. This work offers a simple but efficient approach for the fabrication of porous sponge, exhibiting great potential for hemostatic treatment.
