abstract = "A complete three-dimensional finite element model of a human thorax has been constructed from transverse X-ray Computed Tomography scans. The model is composed of uniformly-sized linear elements and includes detailed anatomical structures. The model contains a large number of nodes and elements, but the solution process can be completed in less than one hour. The work described here emphasizes the use of this method in the design and implementation of defibrillation electrode systems, however, we believe that finite element models generated with this technique will also be applicable to other bioengineering problems. {\textcopyright} 1992 IEEE.",
