Abstract
Following the new challenges of the power industry outlined in Chapter 1, new techniques for power system analysis are needed. These emerging techniques cover various aspects of power system analysis including stability assessment, reliability, planning, cascading failure analysis, and market analysis. In order to better understand the functionalities and needs for these emerging techniques, it is necessary to give an overview of these emerging techniques and compare these emerging ones with traditional approaches. © 2010 Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg.
