    Abstract

Guangdong International Building has a height of approximately 200 m with 63 stories. This paper describes some selected results obtained from the full-scale measurements of dynamic behavior of this tall building. The dynamic characteristics of the buildings are determined based on the field measurements and comparisons with those calculated from the computational model of the buildings are made. The amplitude-dependent characteristics of damping obtained by the random decrement technique are presented and discussed. In parallel with the field measurements, a series of wind tunnel tests are conducted to determine the spectral model of across-wind force on rectangular tall buildings with various side and aspect ratios. The wind-induced responses of the building in along-wind and across-wind directions are evaluated by random vibration method based on the established spectral model of across-wind force. The serviceability of this building is discussed in detail on the basis of the computational results. © 2004 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
