Abstract
Alkali bismuth gallate glasses were characterized, and their properties were compared with those of tellurite K2O-ZnO-TeO2 glasses. The optical waveguides in the oxide glasses were demonstrated using the ion-exchange process. Intense green and red upconversion were observed, and results indicate that Er3+ doped KBG glasses are a promising candidate for optical upconversion devices.
