Abstract

A coloring exercise to imagine with empathy if we were a victim, a perpetrator and a bystander.

The #MeToo movement in 2017 empowered many gender-based violence victims to bravely share their stories, highlighting societal issues. However, some victims who spoke out faced backlash. The support after victims speak out is crucial. Artist Phoebe Man’s work emphasizes support, healing, companionship, and empowerment, using art to accompany victims and address sexual violence issues, engaging the public in discussions on how to provide support. Her work aims to make the issues visible and garner attention while helping those who are hurt to be understood and supported.

Phoebe Man first exhibited her work “Free Coloring If I Were” at her studio in 2018. Since then, she has been invited to exhibit in Taiwan and the United States, and other places, accumulating over a thousand artwork cards from viewers. She continues to focus on this issue, and this is the seventh new version in 2026. This version uses a rope net to create a support, exhibiting the works of past viewers, and welcoming on-site viewers to continue to participate by drawing cards. In this exhibition, the animation “Post #MeToo” (2021) and the work “Together With You” were also shown.
