Faultlines and Team Creativity : Role of Leader’s Emotional Regulation and Knowledge Utilization

Abstract

This study examined the linkage between information-based faultlines and team creativity, focusing on the moderating role of team leader’s emotional regulation strategies, and mediating role of knowledge utilization. Results based on data from 79 research and development (R&D) teams showed that 1) the relationship between information-based faultlines and knowledge utilization was positive when team leader’s cognitive reappraisal was high, 2) the relationship between information-based faultlines and knowledge utilization was negative when team leader’s was high, 3) knowledge utilization was positively related to team creativity, and 4) leader’s cognitive reappraisal moderated the indirect effect of knowledge utilization in the relationship between information-based faultlines and team creativity.
