Abstract

An experimental study of fracture and cyclic fatigue-crack growth behavior was made in a reactively hot-pressed monolithic Ti3SiC2 ceramic with both fine and coarse-grained microstructure. Whereas the fine-grained microstructure exhibited a steady-state R-curve fracture toughness of Kc approx. 9.5 MPa√m, the coarse-grained Ti3SiC2 exhibited a Kc approx. 16 MPa√m.
