Abstract

A fast time-domain analysis technique for PWM switching regulators is presented. The simulation algorithm is based on applying quadratic extrapolations on the outputs of the power conversion stage and feedback network with stepwise validations of switches' operation. The prominent features of this algorithm include (a) the generality of looking for a valid switching topology in the power conversion stage at every simulation step, (b) the use of simple prediction and correction procedures for determining the gate signals applying to the main switches, and (c) the simplicity of manipulating numeric, algebraic equations only which do not require to solve complicated Laplace transformed equations or differential formulas. The proposed methodology is favorably compared to the results obtained from other available literature by analyzing the responses of a practical switch-mode power supply with overcurrent protection and maximum duty-cycle control.
