Abstract

A microfluidic method has been developed to generate a DNA microarray on a compact disk. Probe immobilization and DNA hybridization are both achieved within microchannels on a microfluidic microarray assembly (MMA). One femtomole of oligonucleotide samples could be detected in 3 min. The reaction times in both processes are much shorter than in conventional methods. It is because the high surface-to-volume ratio achievable in the microchannels facilitates fast surface reaction rates.
