Abstract

China’s foreign aid has involved the exchange of huge amounts of money, manpower and materials between donor and recipient countries over the past 70 years. Construction aid accounts for a large percentage of China’s foreign aid and makes its aid-related activity visible in the world. This chapter provides the background to China’s construction aid and explains the rationale, content, perspective and methodology of this book. This volume goes some way to filling the enormous gap in research on this topic and makes an appeal for the smoother operation of aid-funded buildings and transnational design/construction.
